STORY: SOLITARY CONFINEMENT

CLASSROOM-READY NARRATIVE

This is a story told through … twin emails. Enjoy the read & solve the PS puzzle.

Email A:

Hey

Just a brief note before I disappear for the weekend: I’m only staying at this hotel for 48 hours but I’m over the moon. It’s great value for money at USD 90 per night. In fact, it’s a dream come true for someone like me.

The room is tiny (16 m2) with basic conditions: You sleep on the floor. All you get at the reception is a mat, tea set, pen and notebook. And talking to others isn’t allowed.

Basically, I’ll be locked away for the weekend before I leave with a souvenir. And, guess what: I can’t contain my joy. To quote one of the former 2000 guests: ‘This is not a ____, the real _____ is where we return to.’

Love

K.

PS: Guess the word that matches the gaps 😉

Email B:

Mobiles and clocks are strictly forbidden. The simple meals (steamed sweet potatoes, banana shakes and rice porridge) are served through a slot in the door. Matching uniforms need to be worn by all the guests.

Basically, I’ll be locked away for the weekend before I leave with a certificate of parole upon completing my stint in solitary confinement. And, guess what: I can’t contain my joy. To quote one of the former 2000 guests: ‘This is not a ____, the real _____ is where we return to.’
